THE National Environment Agency (NEA) should ban the use of
styrofoam disposables and plastic containers ('Better green
features in new food centres'; yesterday).
Use only ceramic and metal containers instead. The NEA can start
with 10 hawker centres by issuing these items free to hawkers, who
will charge customers for their use.
Over time, the customers will bring their own containers.
As long as customers can afford the cheap, environmentally
unfriendly containers now provided, the NEA will have to continue
to incinerate them.

Ceramic and metal containers?
Ceramic can break easily.
Metal can burn people's arm.
