I RECEIVED a phone call last week from a man claiming to be from
Windows Microsoft Security who told me that he was monitoring my
computer and found it compromised by spyware and viruses.
Assuming that he would correct the problem, I allowed him to log
into my computer.
He then introduced an 'engineer' and 'senior engineer' to talk
to me. He then showed me on the screen that my computer had been
badly infected by viruses.
But when he showed me a page where I had to purchase by credit
card his anti-virus software, I smelled a fraud.
I told him I had no credit card or ATM card but would like to
pay by cash and asked for the address of his office or shop.
He gave the address but told me that I could not enter the
office.
But when I tried to shut down my computer I could not because it
was logged into his. Finally, I turned off the power to shut my
computer.
I am writing in to warn fellow computer users about such
conmen.
