The problems are major and being the leader in the organisation of course focus will be on her. No need to minimize the problems for her. If not for the pressure from the people she will still be happy work in SMRT and allow more problems to exist.

As a professional if she cannot and incapable to solve the problems then it is OK and only good and fair she resigns and make way for others who can help solve problem.

There is no need to side her . In any commerical corporations if the CEO is not performing out he goes. So I don't see the reason why minimize the problems to make her feel good.

I think Ng Ser Miang, Tan Hup Foi or any of the former Trans-Island directors should take over. They seem more competent considering their vast experience in the transport business.

She is one of the top dog and they would have found another lobang for her to hide for a while to convince her to surrender her million dollar salary.

As for the new guy or gal coming in, it should be one of croonies or friends of the top dog.

My guess is a guy from the Blue, Green or White. (They also dunno what to do with these "specialist")

I am shocked of her immediate resignation.

As to whether she deserved some much "attention", please go back to the news articles a few months back on her ya ya response on the overcrowding of train.

She is just getting back what she have dished out.

Honestly, I don't think she doesn't deserve this much hate. Sure, I understand that she's made blunders over a course of only a few days and these mistakes led to many problems for people. But the fact that people are accusing her that she has no idea on how to run a company without any solid evidence is just stupid. She's been CEO of SMRT for the past 10 years and within those 10 years, nothing major has happened until now. Due to the fact that nothing major like this has happened in the past, the sudden rage must have startled her and she probably hasn't dealt with such situations before. She's managed the company for 10 years and she made mistakes. No one is perfect, you can see in the picture that she's dead tired and I may be wrong but I assume she's been pulling her hair out to try to fix this. Stop making accusations without any concrete evidence....

I am quite surprise that u had forgotten the issue of plp breaking into the depot which happen not one but twice. This by itself is serious enough as it can lead to another attack. I think the only contribution she did is to manage to get the PTC to keep increasing the transport fare which in the end only end up in her pocket as the increase in profit dun go to the shareholder div as there no increase in div to shareholder but alot of increase to her package. Then of cos it really depend what is the company objective, it is1) to provide a affordable/cheap/easy mode of transportation for the Singaporean. 2) Or the objective of the company is to serve as a milk cow to milk the Lesser Mortals. Thus base on u point if the objective is 1), then she is one of the worst CEO. However if it is 2) then I agree that she had done a good job for the past 10 yrs as she manage to get the PTC to keep increasing the fare.

Minister Lui may have a hand in this or PM and the cabinet.

the cabinet is involved when PM Lee made a speech that a committee will be appointed to look into SMRT problems. its hard to see how she can possibility survive this even with strong backing from the board. coupled with public fury and her pay package magnified, and the images of passengers trapped in SMRT trains. she is probably urged to quit otherwise she will be replaced if she is unwilling to step down. 10 years is a long time in a CEO job. I wonder what will happen to the retail shops at SMRT? will there be a change of direction in SMRT businesses when the new CEO takes over? perhaps she has spent alot of time on expanding SMRT retail businesses.

SMRT businesses are rail, cabs and retails. core business will be rail of course. she probably spent alot of time on cabs and retail, not saying she neglected rail. SMRT also into advertisements, as billboards at SMRT stations and trains too.

will the next CEO, let say with experiences in IT, expanded into IT businesses lol. I wont be surprised, as companies will usually made the same mistake twice.

clearly this job is also beyond her. if she is the CEO of a investment firm, she will be sacked for the performance of her company or bank.

These wayang investigators should compare the Hongkong MTR network with SMRT network- in terms of rail distances , number of stations, staff strength and total staff salaries. and levels and layers. No more over-payment for inadquacies and inefficiencies!

I am surprised that no one sue SMRT for their harrowing time inside the tunnel and trapped with no ventilation and light.

even in train rides, their ventilation is not working properly at some carriages, as it is hot and stuff with many people, hardly can feel the air con breezing. imagine it breakdown and trapped when train broke down in service?

They don't care about us. They care about money making from us only.

Unless one is dumb and stubborn if not it is easy to know they care for themselves.

Fare hike every year to be accountable to the shareholders like as if SMRT , transport companies are private organisations. They care not for the responsibility to provide transportation as public service.

Somemore, I can say CCL is literally unmanned really... The station has only 2 staff at any shift. Which is why if anything happens on CCL, it's going to be terrible really.

It's likely to do w/ mgmt planning... Maybe they've focused too much to generate growth from retail...

As for fare revision, knowing from HK's experience, I'd rather they do at smaller interval than 1x kns 10 - 20% fare revision.

wow she drove a ferrari. also cos of her high handedness management style, alot of high and mid level executives at SMRT resigned in the past few years, not sure if it can be attributed to her or market forces. insider said she was quite impatient and want results fast. also she was retrenched at DFS after 19 years there. when she was appointed as CEO, some were apprehensive as she has no background in engineering. she has a degree in biochemistry. she was born in Malaysia.

in this country majority of the businesses are monopolies. the so-called competition here in singapore are not for the benefits of the consumers. its for show only.

She dun need to wait for headhunter lar. Most likely one of the company under our GLC had already offer her an overseas post already. Afterall TT Durai also get the same offer, so it shld be abt the same with her. Dun miss out the fact that she is close with one of the most powerful woman in the world.
