Two men were charged in court on Monday with the murder of
full-time national serviceman Chen Zi Quan, police
said.
Lee Boon Leong, 22, and Desmond Neo Han Wen, 24,
were reported to be part of a group of five men that allegedly
attacked Chen in the carpark of Central Square around 6am last
Saturday.
Chen and three friends were heading home when they
were attacked, reported The Straits Times. It was unclear whether
weapons had been used, and Chen together with his friends left the
premise after the fight, it said.
Chen was admitted to hospital and died from head
injuries on Sunday, according to the newspaper.
Meanwhile, District Judge Lim Tse Haw has granted
permission for the police to take the Lee and Neo out to assist in
investigations and they will be remanded at the Central police
division, ST reported.
The duo are expected back in court next Monday, and
if found guilty, they face the death sentence.
When contacted, a police spokesman told Yahoo!
Singapore that a 27-year-old man has also been arrested in relation
to the case, but was unable to reveal whether the man was among
those who allegedly attacked Chen, apart from Lee and
Neo.
This case comes on the heels of another attack
involving a 17-year-old Raffles Institution student Anand Ravindran
who was stabbed twice in the back at Potong Pasir Avenue 1 last
Thursday.
Anand and his companions were accused by three other
youths of staring at them. Five teenagers have since been arrested
in connection with that attack.
