I COMMEND National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan for his
plan to eliminate food imports containing trans fat.
We should not follow the guideline of the United States' Food
and Drug Administration of allowing trans fat content of less than
0.5g per serving to be declared as 0g.
It gives such food products an unfair advantage against those
that have true 0g trans fat.
All trans fat content should be declared to at least two decimal
points. Let the consumer decide on his comfort level for food
safety.
Singapore must take a firmer stand against manufacturers who
negatively impact the integrity of the food chain in their pursuit
of profits.
