SINGAPORE : A 24-year-old Indonesian maid, who
stabbed and slashed her employer's 7-year-old daughter, was
sentenced to eight years' imprisonment on Monday.
The High Court heard that Kumaeroh launched into the horrific
assault on the then-Primary One student at the latter's home on
September 23, 2009.
As the child was waiting to go to school, the maid suddenly stabbed
her several times on her abdomen and back.
She also later slashed the child on both wrists.
The girl, who is now nine years old and in Primary Three, cannot be
named under a court order.
The maid's lawyer said the attack was prompted by the maid's
delusions of being spied upon and being fearful that she would be
sent back to Indonesia for poor work performance.
The girl's parents, who were both in court, told reporters after
the verdict that their daughter has fully recovered from her
injuries but is still withdrawn and hesitant about speaking to
strangers.
