I AGREE with Madam Alena Yap ('Housing type not a fair yardstick
for wealth-sharing'; Monday) that it is unfair to use housing type
as the yardstick for national wealth-sharing.
The selling price of a five-room executive flat located in the
west of the island is much lower than that of smaller-sized flats
in the east and central areas. Relatively speaking, owners of
five-room executive flats in the west have lower personal wealth.
Yet they are penalised in national wealth-sharing.
Families that purchased bigger flats, so that siblings can stay
together, share financial burdens and take care of their elderly
parents, are also penalised.
