A MAJORITY of the respondents to The Straits Times poll asking
whether enough has been done to keep problem gambling at bay,
responded negatively.
Seventy-five per cent out of the 99, indicated 'no' to the
query.
The poll was created in response to an article published in The
Straits Times on Friday where foreigners living or working in
Singapore are among a growing number of people whose families want
them barred from the two casinos.
According to the report, the number of exclusion orders issued
has more than doubled in six months, from 123 as at last June, to
297 by December.
On The Straits Times' Facebook page Siti Nor'aini Abdul Samat
said: 'There is only so much that the government can do.'
She feels that even though these 'hardcore gamblers' can be
excluded from local casinos, there is no stopping them from 'going
across the causeway, onboard cruise ships or even gambling
illegally'.
