'We can never tell,' he said when asked by reporters if PM Lee
Hsien Loong's successor is among the new batch of PAP
candidates.
'All we can do is to make sure that we have a system that
continues to bring in good people,' he said at a ceremony for new
citizens in his Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC.
'We don't want a random process where somebody has no experience
and is an unknown quantity. It may be nice for a change but he
comes in and either runs your GRC and you don't know whether he's
going to deliver, or more dramatically, if he comes in and runs
your country and you don't know what he is and whether he is going
to deliver,' he added.
Mr Teo expressed confidence that Singaporeans want to make sure
'we have good, tried and tested people who can take the
constituency and country forward'.
In his first comments since the publication of the new electoral
map last Thursday, he also highlighted one shortcoming of
four-member GRCs.
