A FORMER bank executive who accepted bribes in return for
divulging confidential customers' particulars on more than 30
occasions was sentenced to 12 weeks' jail and fined a total of
$27,000 on Wednesday.
Sazaly Selamat, 40, was also ordered to pay a penalty of $2,625
being the total amount of bribes he took from various people July
2005 to October 2006.
He had admitted to seven counts of corruption involving $700 and
two for accessing DBS Bank's customer information system without
authority.
Thirty-five other charges were considered during his
sentencing.
The court heard that the offences came to light when a customer
complained to the bank at Serangoon Gardens branch in September
2006 that a staff had given her particulars to a loanshark in
exchange for payment of $100.
Sazaly had access to the customer database system for matters
related to his duties and was not allowed to disclose the
particulars of customers to third-parties.
