AN ELDERLY woman died on Monday, 16 hours after she fell while
alighting from a private bus. The bus was dropping off Madam Tang
Ah Yang, 68, near her home in Bedok, after a tour with a group of
senior citizens to Jurong on Sunday evening.
It is not known whether there was a guide present to help her
get off the bus.
She tripped and fell, hitting the back of her head against the
pavement, but dismissed it as not serious, saying she did not need
medical attention.
Mr Tan Swee Hee, her younger brother, said friends who were
present observed that she had appeared completely fine after the
fall.
However, they urged her to see a doctor since it was a head
injury, and she was taken to Changi General Hospital by ambulance
five minutes later. She died of head injuries at about noon the
next day.
The mother of four, who was described as generous and
easy-going, was generally healthy and frequently went for walks
with her husband, Mr Tan said. 'There should have been a guide when
there were so many senior citizens,' the 60-year-old added.
