SMALL-TIME gamblers such as foreign workers cannot afford to
lose ('It's off to the gambling tables on their days off'; last
Saturday).
They have come to our shores to earn a living so as to escape
the poverty trap at home. Instead, they are now headed for a
gambling trap which may spell their doom.
Gambling is addictive. The Government must do more to discourage
this vice. To prevent both Singaporeans and foreign workers from
falling prey to the gambling trap, the entrance fee to both casinos
could be raised to $500 per day and $10,000 per year.
Besides the option of self-exclusion which might not work,
foreign workers could also be banned from casinos.
