I think the problem is if you keep dwelling on it, trying to weight the cost benefit analysis and all that, life is going to be hard. Gets even harder when U confuse the tangible with the intangible.

Nah, no dilemma. don't worry about me. I saw through it sometime ago. I'm worried about you gents and ladies though.

It's very simple, everything is about money. If you gents/ladies don't something about it, you will end up very hard.

Of course, unless you have loving, well-to-do family, that's anothe matter.

Well, judging by the sheer numbers of your Pinoy friends in Singapore, managers and HR of companies in S'pore don't agree with you.

Of course. working with one doesn't mean all of them are like that, don't get me wrong. Just like singaporeans, most of us use singlish, but there's a minor of us who can use english language in a fluent way.

Anyway, I'll still prefer them to be in plain t-shirt and shorts, and hang around school gates during lunch times which just happen to be school dismissal.

completely agree...easy to say go for part-time study and all that, but to actually go through it, it's never easy.

Worst, once you grad with your cert/deg/mast, you found out that it didnt help much in increasing your salary, worst still, employers find you expensive, replace you.

When I got my bba, and my ex manager know, her attitude towards me changed. Not to good, but to worst. And my promotion in fact was almost zero. Worst, she asked one junior to went to KL to teach our KL colleagues instead of me! That is the past.

When you get your newly degree cert, can you move up the ladder? Provided you move out to get a new higher salary. But then, how old are you already?

Employers will not want his/her staff to outbeat him/her.

If employers feel the threat, you are doomed on your working life.

No more promotion, no more incentives for you.

If you're not too concerned about your own/family financial status, then it's perfectly ok to obtain a degree to gain extra knowledge, treat it as lifelong investment.

I'm not sure who doesn't expect monetary returns from their investment(time/money) in a degree.

I studied for 2 main thing: Get more salary and got promoted.

But in reality, it is difficult if (majority) your empoyers feel a threat.

Seriously speaking Singaporeans don't exactly have the best method of management. Most Singaporeans think they can use the carrot and stick to punish those who don't perform. However I see a lot of Singaporeans who are seconded overseas struggle because they don't know how to manoevre themself politically to get support from the strong people in the office, instead most Singaporean managers end up isolating themselves by using the stick to punish underperformers.

Perhaps their way work well in Singapore but when they go to other country, they struggle a lot because cannot adapt to the culture. Must do it their way instead of listening to the locals.

For me, I took on a lower salaried job for several years so I could qualify to obtain a BTO application. After I secured the flat, I immediately jumped ship to a much higher one, because if I started at the higher paying one, HDB will never allow me to participate in their BTO lucky draw.

I am paying under $250k. Its 4 room, and they got the option for flooring and all that nonsense, I took it all.Location, not in the west, and not in the south.
