IN OUR bid to save the world from plastic bags, are we creating
a worse problem?
Those recyclable bags that have been on sale to replace plastic
ones are proliferating most alarmingly. It looks like everyone's
jumping onto the recyclable bag bandwagon - everyone's giving one
away at the slightest of excuses.
At any one time, there are four to five of these bags in my car
and lots more in the storeroom. They look a lot more bulky than
plastic bags and I wonder if weight for weight, they don't cause
more harm to the environment in their manufacture and disposal.
Why don't we go back to the rattan baskets of yesteryear? They
are hygienic, totally biodegradable and organic.
