I AGREE with Mr Raymond Lo that family is the crucial pillar of
our nation ('Family's role critical for a stable society', last
Wednesday).
The family embodies love, joy, support and security. It nurtures
and develops our children. The breakdown of the family, if not
properly managed or controlled, heralds the breakdown of society.
We should never take family for granted, but constantly nurture,
strengthen and celebrate it.
Every year, the National Family Council organises the National
Family Celebrations to promote the institution of family. Through
the month-long events, competitions and promotions, we encourage
Singaporeans to spend more time with their families, creating
shared memories, special moments and family routines together. We
hope that what is set in motion will continue in all families.
Everyone, including the Government, and business and people
sectors, has a part to play in strengthening the Singapore family.
Together, we can build strong families and a strong nation.
