SPRING Singapore chairman Philip Yeo has incurred the wrath of
Apple's famously fanatical followers over comments that they claim
disparaged them.
They are incensed by his description of those who buy 'useless
applications' for Apple's products as 'gullible customers'.
Mr Yeo was guest speaker at the Fullerton-St Joseph's
Institution leadership lecture last Friday when he was asked what
he thought of the iPad tablet.
The message is not wrong (in my opinion), but the language and
tone used is callous.
I can agree that iPad is nothing more than an overhyped upsized
version of the iPod Touch, but one would expect a person of such
standing to use more diplomatic language.
He could have said something like 'Personally, I think the
apps have limited utility. Potential customers might also want to
consider that the iPad's specs aren't exactly
groundbreaking.'
There. Same message, but in a far more diplomatic tone.
