A 29-year-old man was arrested by police early on Thursday
morning while trying to steal newspapers from a drop-off point in
Bukit Batok Central.
Newspaper vendors operating in the vicinity had reported to
police and Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) after discovering 2,400
copies of The Straits Times' Life! and classified sections missing
over the previous two nights.
The culprit was eventually caught in an ambush set up near the
newspaper drop point.
Said Mr Chua Wee Phong, Executive Vice-President of SPH's
Circulation Department: 'The theft has inconvenienced our readers
and subscribers who did not receive their newspapers. Once we
received the tip-off from vendors, the team acted immediately to
replace the stolen newspaper copies.
'We would like to assure our readers and subscribers that we
will go all out to help them get their daily newspapers on time,'
he added.
Police investigations are ongoing.
