Ever fancied a boogie while
browsing for bread?
One Dutch supermarket offered shoppers the chance
to go wild in the aisles - after opening up after hours as a
nightclub.
Dirk, a supermarket in Amsterdam, opened its
doors to partygoers last month in honour of a flyer that has gone
down in Dutch folklore.
Nothing came of the flyer but the idea lived on
and was finally realised at the Dirk supermarket in Amsterdam last
month.
Ady Van de Plas, a 45-year-old photographer and
fashion writer who snapped pictures at the event, said: 'It was
brilliant. There were loads of students and party-goers dressing up
and it was a really good atmosphere.
'People were shopping and partying at the same
time. There must have been a couple of people who'd gone to do
their shopping and just decided to have a dance while they were
there.
'It was weird. People were wandering off to buy
biscuits and then going back to the dancefloor.
'I thought it was a great idea, it was a right
laugh and it's made quite an impact in Holland.
'Maybe it could set a trend - there were people
dancing in the aisles as well as on the portable disco floors and
the bars were set up at the checkout.'
