Living with or away from parents isn't an indicator of
independence, BUT there are people who live with their parents
because they can't run their own lives properly without
intervention from mum and dad.
Similarly, you may not live in the same house but your parents may still dictate the way you live
and even whom you
date. You don't have to live together with your family to maintain strong ties with them. And
enough of saying that "Western society" is the
antithesis of everything Asian - the Catholic
Church for instance places a lot of importance on the
family unit.
Yes we should not get fixated about this living or not living
with parents.
There are some who live with their parents as young adults but r
able to make their own decisions, in a mature way. This is because
they recognize their situation (ie. high chance of
overdependence/ inability to take care of oneself/ etc), and
proactively do somethin about it.
However, it isnt difficult to see how many SG duds
fail to see thru their disadvantaged situation of
living with parents and continue to leech and depend on their
parents and stay in their comfort zone. And before they realize it,
their SG chicks run away with some white dude who's stopped
suckling on his mummy's milk since he was 18. It's just too bad,
suckers
