my instructor is damn fierce, but because of tht hes good.. he shouts and hurl profanities in hokkien, mandarin, english etc but thats when u make some serio...

Hello, anybody wish to share bad/unprofessional practices of private driving instructors?

I'll start the ball rolling: dozes off while teaching, can't give clear instructions and ends up scolding, insists that whats in the Final Theory Book is wrong/redundant.

My friend said his instructor reads the paper while my friend's driving, then bring him to watch chinese opera.

I feel the worse ones are those who does not inculcate a sense of road safety and a sense of road consideration.

They are the ones who teach you not to give way and be selfish.

Or they teach you not to make you drive safely but rather teach you beacuse he/she only wants you to pass.

And they usually go, "just learn this for the exam, after that can forget about it and drive anyhow."

Yah,mine is like...you do everything by the book, after you get the license, you want how also can.Is there nobody governing these private instructors?I mean frankly I'm a slow learner,then he was like quite tu lan, den wanted to smack me. I stopped the car got out, and opened his door and ask him for what he want. First time he saw me lidday, because most lesson, he scold I just "orh...Orh...Orh.."He like stunned lah.Blardy cock...

it really depends on what you hired them for doesn't it?

Some people hire the instructors to show them how to drive, some to teach them how to drive well and some just to help them pass.

If you hired them jsut to help you pass the test then its not wrong to have that attitude and method

Well.. i know some students only bothered to pass for the sake of getting license as a license to show off.

But some truly innocent students sway sway get such instructors also.

yeah but then the problem is whats the job of the instructor. while it might eb good to impart the values and behaviour, the main job of the instructor is actually to help the student pass the test( afterall have you seen pple hire driving instructors otehr than test? lets ignore refamilirazation with the car because its a rather small minority).

+ i would say that the drivers are adults they can make their own decisions, do you really think its going to stop an inconsiderate driver from not giving way if the instructor last time said he should??

My instructor everytime wear sunglasses to sleep leh.. common la.. go straight road sure sleep.. it's the narrow roads n turns tt he'll wake up n take control.. the turns are the things tt u'll learn.. go big straight roads is juz excuse for him to sleep.. Laughing

Not all school driving instructors are good.

For once I booked a last minute lesson with an instructor that was not under my fixed group and he damn attitude. when I did just a little mistake he would show attitude to me. What a nightmare 100 minutes you can imagine.

THis is where i disagree with you. I feel instructor has a greater onus than passing someone just to be licensed on the road. He should understand that letting someone into the roads without values will lead to that new driver developing their own sets of behaviour on the road.

Because a previously non-driver is unfamiliar with road behaviour, this is where an instructor MUST guide one to drive safely AND more importantly the rational behind keeping the road safe.

To teach on the skills of driving without knowledge of what safe driving means I feel is irresponsible of the instructor.

I learnt my driving overseas under a very structured school. Before i can touch the vehicle, i had to go thru 2 months in-class theories on road safety. When it's practical time, the instructor would first drive me around and show the standard she wants me to meet.

She enforced it thru out the period of the instruction. After the course, I was questioned by their internal auditors to check if she actually followed the syllabus 100%, only then i was allowed to proceed and take my driving exam.

This is the kind of enforcement and inculcation i feel singapore instructor is very much lacking.

last time my instructor doze off in the circuit while waiting to do the parking. use hp (of coz when i was driving not him) . wear a sunglass and his eyes are close even tho he look like he’s looking out on the road. heavy traffic on the road and teach me to just signal and turn no need to wait and say no 1 will wait for you LOL

hmmz okz let me rephrase that, i meant that the instructors are hired to help pple pass the test, therefore it is their job. students do not hire the instructors to pass such knowledge; okz at least most don't.

It would be nice and good if the knowledge was passed on, but then that would require the students actually wanting it.

hmmz i would say 2 months in class theories is too long, its a waste of time most of the stuff you can either pick up on the road or be given in prob less time like in 1 or 2 sessions. but then thats a system problem i guess
