"Last year, a Reader's Digest spokesman said that about 47% of
new subscriptions for its magazines resulted from sweepstakes
promotions, down from 89% the previous year."

PS: When i was in lower secondary, i was pretty taken in by
their sweepstakes thingy which always arrives in a big and weighty
envelope. Not to mention that they have a way with words too,
always saying that you are one of the few qualified for their
sweepstakes.
So, I keep sending them back the reply envelopes hoping to hit
the jackpot someday. When they sent me the sweepstakes envelope
time and again, I keep replying them each and every single time
(this dragged on for a couple of years). At first I was pretty
excited, then finally I just felt digusted by them. The
contents of each envelope they sent always give me the same crap.
Then I realised that what they were really promoting was not the
sweepstakes, but the products in the fliers they included in the
envelope.
Yes, I was really naive back then.
