starhub set-top box burnt

Beaten_And_Damned SG

What pleasent surprise greeting me at home after failing to watch the Euro 08 Ger vs Turkey match due to the “supposed thunderstorm ” that happened, which likely was a damned story to save thier asses on the line,Starfug strikes again.

The set top box was smoking and some of the plasticy covering the wire had melted. considering i had put the thing on standby and had not touched the set top box, which was installed in dec ‘07 by a starfug personnel, and the HDTV wiring leading to the tv was also melted . pics up soon. removed the wire and opened the set top box and to my horror, the whole thing was burnt.
GIMME BACK MY FUCKING money i subscribed to the CHN 30 EURO 08 premium sons of bitches how am i gonna watch the fucking final now assholes?

Consider getting a good surge protector for your all entertainment equipments, cos next time it might be a plasma tv getting summoned by the lord.

ok, tune ur tv frequency to 527.35MHz and u can still catch the Euro 2008 finals on Starhub preview channel, its free...

We apologise for the star f**up inconvience caused, alternatively, you can watch the rest of the matches at football pubs, kopitiam and also some hotels like hotel 81. Thank you.

There really was a thunderstorm, almost whole world lost coverage.

fudgester SG

With regards to your first paragraph, the thunderstorm really did happen. Everyone in the whole world outside the stadium was cut off from the live feed. If you don't want to trust the local media on this, try going to other sources like BBC - that was where I first learnt about the worldwide cutoff.

If Starhub is to be blamed, then it is because they didn't have backup plans like having a panel of football pundits to discuss the game. Otherwise, we can't be blaming Starhub for the weather in Europe, no?

Beaten_And_Damned SG

You mean… almost 10 billion across the globe… had no live footage?

sigh.. i went to the starhub help center and they only offered me 1-1 exchange…

still good as nth if the same thing hapen..

how to prevent this happen again?

BBC News: UEFA May Face Action Over Outage

From the article:

The transmission of live pictures to countries around the world failed three times during Germany's 3-2 victory.

Alexandre Fourtoy of Uefa said several events, including the extreme weather, had coincided to produce the blackout.

The BBC, one of many broadcasters to lose pictures during the match, is yet to decide whether to take action.

Uefa has switched to a different system for Thursday's semi-final.

The freak storm in Vienna on Wednesday saw lightning, heavy rain and winds of up to 87 mph, causing three power cuts.

So before you lash out blindly.... at least try to find out a bit more, yes?
