Firstly here is the list of type of engine configarations and
the advantages and the disavantages. Can the expert add more
information in there please ?
In line engine
Adv - smooth, easy to service
Dis- high nose increase aerodynamic drag
V engine
Adv - Shorter crankshaft
increases stiffness and strength, shortens length of engine block,
lower centre of gravity than in-line
Dis - Not as simple to
manufacture and access for servicing
Box engine
Adv - lower centre of gravity, low nose good for aerodynamics
Dis - hard to service, expansive to make, difficult to lubricate
properly
Wankel Rotory engine
Adv - light , smooth , compact, high pwer-to-size ratio
Dis - high exhaust emissions due to insufficient control of
airflow, high heat losses
Secondly , since Rearwheel (FR) drive car is easier to steer why is
it Frontwheel (FF) Drive car still widely use. Is it due to the
cost and the complexity of the design or ease of car design.
It's the more
space-efficient design for family cars.
