Let me clarify.

i think to depend on public taste to judge whether something is good art or bad art or not is very dangerous when you are going to be the canvas. A lot of artists were not appreciated until they are dead :) And i did not say that art cannot be sold - but rather, not ALL art pieces is for sale or for the public.

There is also art that you do for self expression. It's like writing a diary, its something you want to say or you feel but you can't express in words. And it really doesn't matter whether it is beautiful or good or not - because we don't say/think/feel beautiful or good stuff all the time anyway. And if we change it because of someone else's opinion, then it means you don't feel all that strongly about it to begin with.

In the case of a tattoo, unless you are doing it to impress people and look chio, otherwise for many people, getting a tattoo is a way of using body art as a way to chronicle events in life, or a reminder of your own convictions or beliefs. If it is for the latter - why bother what people think?

it doesnt matter if people may criticize my tattoos because they mean something to me but more of what would you guys think if there was a person with a tattoo at a visible area on the body.

lets say i put something small, doesnt really make an impact but i m happy.

if i put something horrendous and at a visible area, lets say a racist sign, wouldnt it impact people around me and my opportunities for jobs or a relationship??

he's saying art has a relation with NS, completed studies (i dont know what studies, which field he's talking bout here anyway), and a stable income/career.... SO if you havent achieved the above 3, you die die cannot talk about art because it'd be like,

and for this, what i mean is, so you got your tattoo, but why must you cover it?

I'm not implying that we must all 'show off' the tattoos we had, because it's not the reason to start with when we decided to get one in the beginning. (but of course, if the tattoo is really nice and it does have a story behind it, that'd be ) We're getting it because we wanted to, for eg. mark a particular event we had in our life, we wanted to rem it.

if i put something i dont like and for other people to see, they see, feel scared for 1 sec, thats it. but i rather put it for my own pleasure.

This is a controversy topic, different societies, culture, religion, country and people view tattoos as different meanings. Some people might treat this as an art and a form of expressions, some might view it as a out of society action, some countires might view it as a culture or religion perspective.

However in singapore, tattoos are widely associated with gangsterism or an action that defies society. Imagine you meeting your in-laws and they saw your tattoos, that's gonna be the end of the marriage for some.

All to all you might like to have a small tattoo that exibits some style or tribal meaning in it so that people don't mistake you as a 70s or 80s gangster. And don't put it on too visible places, put it someway that can be covered away if need to be.
