I'm a Jay fan and imo, the last two albums were quite shiat on
the whole. This new single is what he should be about. Singing what
he likes and desires instead of creating those mainstream sounds
that is so generic. For sure he knows it will not be well-received
at all (go ahead and say he acts cute, he doesn't give a shiat),
but he had the balls to release such a single. This song is like
saying, "Hey I'm singing this cheesy cowboy song, you like it or
not, it's your problem."
This song is on the level of pure fun, and shouldn't be taken
seriously. It reminds me of those funny american cowboy dramas and
that Mexican-rat cartoon that goes Hee Ba Hee Ba.
Hopefully, this album will be another Yeh Hui Mei, but it's only
the first single, so we will all know come November the 2nd.
It's about time he restores his credibility as a musician. Recently
he said that Fatt-gor and Gong Li affected him a lot because they
are so humble even when they are famous. Maybe venturing into
movies isn't a bad thing after all. Because ever since Qi Li Xiang,
Jay had just been another Taiwan popstar, churning out boring tunes
that only exists to lie to those Xiao Mei Mei. If you don't know
what I mean, dig out any songs from JAY to Qi Li Xiang and compare
to those from November Chopin and Still Fantasy (what an insult to
that iconic Fantasy). There is something wrong if you can't tell
apart the songs that oozes with sincerity and great tunes, and
those that sounds so generic and tiring.
Jay's back, for now.
