Appeal do not mean he doesn't want to his term. He is hoping for
a reduced sentence, but risk having his sentence increased,
Singapore style. It also signals that he do not agree with the
conviction. To not appeal, says that he accept the verdict that he
is guilty. It is his perogative.

Anyway,3 months for a fraudulent person like him is too light in my
opinion and so I hope he gets a longer sentence for appealing even
he knows he is as guilty as hell and should accept the
extraordinary superlight sentence.
