If too short a distance and travelling say 60 or 70km while
approaching traffic junction, then traffic lights turn to amber,
for braking, usually either down to gear 3, then depress clutch and
stop, put into netural, hand brake ‘on’. Otherwise, usually from
gear 4, to 3, then to 2 and then stop, and put to netural. Have
been driving for 25 years, Never heard of put to gear 1 to stop.
Gear 1 usually for pick up or for emergency engine brake. My
