He runs into hotel, battles thieves with this
Yet ends up with stitches after they follow him from ATM to
hotel
October 01, 2006
HE suspected he was being followed by three men.
So the quick-thinking businessman ran into a hotel in Taman Johor
Jaya, Johor Baru, for refuge.
The man, who is known only as Mr Lin, knew that if he was attacked
there, security cameras would capture the whole thing on
tape.
And he was right.
Mr Lin was withdrawing RM1,000 ($430) from an ATM at a petrol
station on Thursday afternoon when he noticed three men in a white
car. They appeared to be watching him.
When Mr Lin, 24, drove out of the petrol station, the white car
followed, reported Sin Chew Daily.
Worried that the men might be after his money, Mr Lin got out of
his car and ran into a nearby hotel. He pretended to register for a
room.
He also called a friend for help.
Just as he was showing his IC to the hotel receptionist, one of the
men in the car approached him.
PRETENDED TO BE POLICE
The man claimed to be a policeman and started shouting when Mr Lin
demanded proof of identity.
Meanwhile, Mr Lin's friend reached the hotel and after a brief
exchange of words, the man walked off.
Thinking that everything was fine, Mr Lin's friend left.
Then the three men reappeared, reportedly wielding knives and a
1m-long metal rod.
They tried to snatch Mr Lin's gold necklace and his wallet.
A scuffle followed and Mr Lin was hit several times on the
head.
Mr Lin told China Press: 'To protect myself, I grabbed the hotel's
fire extinguisher and sprayed the foam on them. They got scared and
ran off.'
He gave chase and had another confrontation with the three men
outside the hotel.
They allegedly broke the window of Mr Lin's Proton Wira and stole
the licence plate.
Mr Lin was taken to the hospital by his girlfriend and had to have
his wounds stitched up.
