Are teachers allowed to have freelance jobs?

discovery SG

Hi forumers...I need your help.

I signed up for contract teaching, but I want a job in the sideline, for example freelance acting, hosting and the like.

Is this allowed for MOE teachers? I am confused because I know of a prominent Malay actor/host who is an MOE teacher, I know another teacher who is a radio DJ and so on.

I think a couple of Channel 8 hosts/actors/what-not are teachers too right?

I am confused as to whether MOE allows this?

FireIce SG

did u read the contract before signing?

hisoka SG

from what i know, its not cannot. but you need to clear it with moe or the school first i think

Yes it did mention that one is not allowed to take part-time or second employment.

But then quite a few teachers are working in the media- that's why i'm confused Rolling Eyes

thanks FireIce!

FireIce SG

those working in the media are invited to teach bcos of their experience
so their main job is showbiz, second job is teaching

dun mix up

As long as your employers don't find out, anything is possible.

I think teachers shud be allowed to take other jobs otherwise wat r they gonna do during the sch holidays. They don’t get paid do they?

FireIce SG

they are paid during sch holidays too
