PHONE SCAM
A TELEPHONE scammer conned a woman out of $55,000 last week.
The victim in her late 30s received a call from a woman claiming to
be a courts officer on Dec 4.
The caller said the victim was involved in a money laundering case
and had to appear in court unless money was transferred to two bank
accounts.
The con woman said she would visit the victim with documents to
close her case after the transfers were made. The victim made the
transfers totalling $55,000 on Dec 6, but the trickster did not
turn up afterwards.
