no place to put piano at home too..

she doesnt appreciate music too, maybe tatz y she doesnt allow me to learn..
but she put me to other classes, lik art n singing...
dun really like art class though..

singing is best learned when your voice is breaking, everytime you open your mouth, you're practising already. trust me, thats how i learned to control my voice

i have a bit of background in trumpet and guitar, now i just signed up for piano lessons. i'm 18 this year and some people tell me that i'm blessed with a good vocal box.

Research has shown that (sorry, I dont have the relevant references at the moment) that our musical brain cells stopped developing at the age of 7. So after 7 years old, no matter what you do to increase your musical development is not very useful. Some of you may think that "but I learn the piano at the age of 10 and I am doing well", that is because you have somehow been exposed to music in some way or form or fashion.

So my point is, for your child to benefit from the piano lessons or music lessons, get her/ him enrolled in it before she/he turns 7.

Those who didn't get the chance to learn piano when they were young as TS says regrets why their parents did not give them the chance.

Well how about those who were 'forced' to learn piano? Let's have them in this discussion. Learning a muscial instrument ought ot be out of personal interest. But today's world where parents want to give a headstart for their children, force them to take up piano among other things.

And of course, what's the use of learning piano when you can't show the qualification/exam grades. Hence, the theory and practical exam preparations. Is this what interest is all about? Preparing one grade of theory and practical exams after another?

personally i dont see the point of learning piano. i have friends who take piano exams and diplomas and etc and i dont see how all these qualifications are of any use besides making oneself feel a sense of achievement.

Im 20 and im taking piano class at yamaha. Initially i tot im gonna be the oldest in the class but when i went for my first lesson, got alot of uncle and aunty and mayb late 20s. Theres 1 guy whose birth yr is 1969.

I think as long as u r alive, go live your dreams.

Sometimes i tell myself , if i can type keyboard so fast , sure i can play the keys on the piano fast one day. =)

my mum gave me a choice when i was young:

she had 3000 bucks for me, either i choose to learn piano (she will buy a piano for me), or i can choose to buy a computer (in 1994, a freaking pentium processor, 75MHZ with 8MB of RAM, 1.2GB of harddisk preinstalled with Windows 95 (plus keyboard, CRT 15inch monitor (last time considered quite big liao), the whole set) cost you 2999 bucks!!!!)

and i was stupid enough to choose dat computer (i rmb it was acer).....

now 3000 bucks can get you a 4GB RAM with 500GB harddisk and quad core 3.8GHZ com liao, can go get lcd screen with wireless mouse keyboard, the whole set), still got somemore left for you to go enjoy life sia....

I don't see why you cannot pick up what you had been deprived now.

Just take up a lesson and see where your interest will lead u to. You are not trying to blame your parents for not being able to make u to the likes of Jim Brickman, Richard Clayderman and etc.. right? Anyway, I think although we may not be as fast as the young ones but with a broad mind and an undying interest I do not think it is any problem with picking up the piano.

That is of cos, you can afford the lesson and a piano to practice at home as well. As u know lessons need to follow up wz practice. Smile
