That's the way the earth and anything else on it works.
BALANCE.
Even for biodiversity, if a certain species gets too huge, it will
eventually succumb to control due to shortage of prey or disease or
ends up being prey to others.
It's nature's way of controlling either species from becoming too
strong, it's all about balance.
I have no doubt that as our global population continues to grow,
there will be more competition for food and resources. If a famine
hits somewhere or a certain resource is depleted (oil), the global
population will decline substantially.
Oil is used in the transportation of food and finished goods.
Singapore is extremely reliant on import of food products, if there
is a sudden depletion of oil in the world, the existing transport
system will not be able to adjust fully.
The global community should promote less reliance on oil and find
other forms of energy. It's always good to develop another energy
resource, should an oil shortage hit, with reliance on another form
of energy, if food resources are allocated efficiently, the effects
of global starvation would not be too drastic.
