Actually, swapping of engine is subject to LTA approval, provided the engine to the same type and model, it is illegal to change a bigger CC engine.

But if u are really curious on engine swapping, Honda civics are one of the best choice, cases like swapping a B18 engine to the bay for an eg6(originally B16), the outlook is the same, a little wider on the engine block that's all. An experience driver cannot identify it easily too. [/url]

Quite agree with you there.... the B16 and B18 are almost identical, visually. So... there's a tiny loophole hmmmm.... Razz then again , it seems to work well with Hondas only, unless anyone else has came across other makes with engine swaps?

Yes, you can do a engine change for car, So far i heard and seen 2 Mazda 323 Famili with Ford TX-3 1.8 block, TC to more than 300 bhp...
everything can be done, but it is not legal... always make sure your car can stop fast, and turn fast, before you attempt to go fast... a stationary car that cannot move, driver remains safe, but a moving car that cannot stop, driver always dies...

Agree with DaKar, to add on.
Upgrade to a bigger or TC car, means the owner have to upgrade intercooler, brakes, supensions, clutch-plate, ecu, feul pump, all these will cost a bomb, so i think is best to drop the idea, buy a real TC car, wrx now 78k, i think still can be affortable, only the 2.5cc road tax xiong nia......

what if let's say your car model is super old yet not old enough to be scrapped, and there's no replacement engine you can find? (or any other parts that affect the car's performance)

are there actually people who go ahead to modify their car, then modify it back to its original state when it comes to vehicle inspection time, then modify it again after inspection? Razz

Depends on what type of cars you are talking about...
Typically for people who want to mod their cars, inspection will be last thing on their mind... ROV and TP roadblock is scarier... For Inspection, there are ways to get around it... For cars like Mazda 323, they have the Lantis and Ford TX-3 1/2 cut or engine readily available in malaysia, taiwan and japan... so engine is never a problem... If your mechanic is resourceful enough, you don't have to worry abt going for inspection...

not taking into account all other nonsense and answering simply to ur question, yes, it can be done. across the causeway, lots of protons n wira are already using v6 engines and more. their exhaust systems n suspensions varies from straight-thru to whole system changes together wif the engine.

brakes are advisable to change.

if your exhaust loud enuff or exterior attention seeking enuff, they will ask you u to pop bonnet lor... so rule of thumb, unless you drive ferrari or porsche, either have a fast car, or something that look fast... exact detail abt the inspection not nice to review lar...

The answer is no. A car which is older or equal than 10years old can scrap at a market value anytime. Younger than 10years can sell to dealer or import. So if really problem till so serious, i suggest either scrap or try sell. No point modify heavily then back to its original state when it comes to vehicle inspection time, then modify it again after inspection. waste money. can buy new car liek that, just to let u know if let say change the whole engine in and out will cost 1-2k depending on the garage...

That has been done before in Japan years ago. By one of the top AE86 tuners CY Racing. You can also throw in a S2000 unit or even a 20B Rotary turbo unit.
