Copperfield's KL show
cancelled
KUALA LUMPUR - David Copperfield's performance in Malaysia this
month has been cancelled after the FBI launched an investigation
into the world-famous American magician and illusionist, a report
said yesterday.
The organisers of his two-day Kuala Lumpur stint, to be held next
Tuesday and Wednesday, said the decision was made after FBI agents
raided his warehouse in Los Angeles last week.
'He needs to help in the investigations. Copperfield is not
prevented from leaving the United States but he needs time to get
to the bottom of things,' Arianna Event Management director Arianna
Teoh said in The Star newspaper.
FBI agents reportedly took away a computer hard drive and a digital
camera memory chip.
They also visited the MGM-Grand Hotel and Casino on the Vegas
Strip, where Copperfield often performs.
Mr David Chesnoff, lawyer for the 51-year-old magician, said: 'We
understand there is an investigation, we are in touch with the
investigators and are respecting the confidentiality of the
investigation.'
Teoh said Copperfield's performance could still take place
later.
At press time, Singapore event promoter Unusual Entertainments is
still 'in discussion and pending further instructions from David
Copperfield's management' to decide whether his shows on Nov 2 and
3 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium will go on.
