just curious.......America, in chinese language is Mei3 Guo2.
however, i think somewhere in 18 - 19th century, it's called Mei3 Li4 Gong4 He4 Guo2.

can anyone confirm?
if true, then the "Gong4" and "He4" is which chinese character?

I think the Chinese name might be referring to the “Confederate States of America” during the American Civil War (18611865), between the anti-slavery North (Union) and the slave-owning South (Confederacy)
