190km/h on NS highway rushing to parents, they were involved in an
accident, a Proton crashed into their car from behind which was on
the shoulder/emergency lane with triangle/warning set up and spare
tyre placed just behind boot on a bright Sunday morning. Driver was
a 20year old with probation license still going way beyond speed
limit...with a wife, baby, younger brother and mother in the
car...all seriously injured and probably going to have health
implications for the rest of their life.
Some lessons learnt.
1: Upon a puncture or vehicle breakdown, you are required to call
the Toll Plus Highway number or using the SOS phone to inform them.
They would then send their vehicles to place cones and other
warning signs to assist you. Apparently this is required by
Malaysian Law.
2: Place spare tyre behind back of car in line with triangle sign,
in this case the spare tyre prevented a direct impact on the car
and missed my dad whom was squatting spanner in hand on the still
attached punctured tyre when like a cartoon the car just
disappeared in front of him.
In event of accident,
3: If you/passengers are not injured, retrieve your
passports/valuables from vehicle and safekeep them, many 'vultures'
will appear out of nowhere to scavage while you are distracted or
helping the injured, although some are genunie passer-bys whom are
really helping. If possible get women and children away from
accident site if you have to stay with your vehicle, many cases of
accident victims becoming robbery victims too have been
heard...
4: Call your insurance company and have them contact the local
authorised panel contractor to have them tow the vehicle, the
towing bill will then be covered by insurance. Verify the identity
of the towing truck/company. Many tow trucks or unknown people
would suddenly appear offering to tow your vehicle, do not let them
tow your car away unless you want to have a hefty bill to be paid
with cash on your own and troublesome 'release process' while you
are still in a foreign country.

Rarely exceed the speed limits on local roads at 110-130+ unless
sometimes forget momentarily when coming back from Malaysia while
on BKE or Tuas...
In my opinion, those people whom boast of high speeds on our local
roads are just inconsiderate pure reckless...many have not
experienced the different driving conditions, overestimate their
"skills"...and most importantly...not knowing the limits/handling
behaviour of their cars...endangering the lives of people on the
road or the girl/girlfriend beside them they want to
'impress'...
Want to impress? Know yourself...know your car...know your
route...always plenty of chance to 'upgrade' yourself through BMW's
ADT/IDT...I understand Subaru conducts driving courses too...
