spencer99 SG Hi, If you are driving on a staright and level road and let go of steering and the car drift to one side... i understand that is a whell alignment issue. Question is how did the mechanic correct this? is it by machine? or what?
siaokao SG Its common to have your car drift to left side on SG roads coz of the camber build into our roads.
babymac13 SG Can use a measuring tape measing the left and right alignment and ajusting the steering rod accordingly.
tailslide SG might as well say use ruler measure afaik, u can't measure alignment by simple geometrical calculations. u need an alignment system to do so. and adjusting the steering column only corrects the neutral position of ur steering wheel. it does nothing for ur alignment.
Entwicklung SG to spencer99, when ur last alignment check? if its quite long maybe u jus go workshop and check it out. It is done using machine.
gohkatkat SG its done by the specialist motor vehcle shops like vicom…..they have the equipment to do this…...normal mechanics can’t do this unless they have 100% perfectly aligned eyes…......which is as good as the equipment.
siaokao SG ok.. there are several kinds of wheel alignment. 1. Adjust toe setting only - what mech will do is to drive your car over a device that check your "Toe" setting. Vicom and other places where you do your regular inspection does this. 2. 4 Wheel Alignment - This is more complete kinda alignment. It checks for several reading on all 4 wheels by attaching sensors to all wheels (usually optical - NIR or laser.. some older system uses mechnical means such as cables)
babymac13 SG I did that when I was in army for all vehicles, we have no alignment system. Maybe for commercial vehicles, you need an alignment system, which I don't have much knowledge then.
siaokao SG Actually its possible to measure "toe" setting using only measuring tape. But of coz its not very accurate lah.. and u cannot tell how many degrees.. only a rough estimate.
