while im anti smoking, i pitied smokers for their plight when they encounter no seats during meal times at peak hour and the seats are occupied by non-smokers.

but come to think of that, its the law that smokers who want to smoke must sit at designated seats, but non-smokers can seat anywhere isn't it?

non-smokers did nothing legally wrong.. maybe just a bit wrong morally. if they dont move after u asked, i dont think should make a fuss out of it. why not just quickly finish ur food and puff somewhere??

Smoking can only be done in the designated area.
Smokers can sit in the smoke free area, but refrain from smoking.
Non-smokers can sit in the smoking ares, but must not complain about the smoking.

totally agree with this. if u cannot find a sit at the smoking area then forget abt it. finish yr meal le then get up and go out of the kopi tiam to smoke lor. this is usually wat i do. i dun have to sit in the smoking area to eat cos i dun eat and smoke at the same time. i finish my meal,get up from my sit, go smoke somewhere else. as easy as tht lor. some kopi tiam got like 1-2table for smoker nia. wait for those sit? dun nid to eat le lor. so many ah pek sitting there eating+drinking+smoking.. those non-smoker just say wat u wan, one day when yr wife, husband, son, daughter or someone very close to u tht is a smoker, go and say them.. mind yr own business. complain so much for wat sia.. machiam we using yr money to buy those ciragette like tht sia. singaporean NO 1 in Kaypo and Complaining.

mate tobacco tax in singapore is highest compare to all over the world. tat y u can see only the cig price keep going up compare to cooking oil and other items.. if government ban tobacco= no tax, no tax = no income for government.. in order to have income for the government, GST and other tax will get higher and dont be surprise to see the 10% when that happen..

IMO the heated arguement has been between smokers and non-smokers.
perception and biasedness occurs as to right or wrong. compromising is the right way. however, everyone has their own right to smoke and to sit in a smoking area. the only solution is courtesy and convenience.

however if no one wishes to compromise, then i suggest avoiding such people is the best.

to be fair to smokers,since it is designated for them, let's respect that.

breathing 2nd hand smoke may do you harm, so if you are that particular, move away. For me, I don't smoke, and I will move away from smokers whenever I am with my baby.

I think we should respect each others space.

And I do see smokers when they see my baby, they will auto either sit sideways to let the smoke go in another directions, or blow the smoke downwards..
Also, when I walk pass, they will "turn" their butts so that they don't accidentally burn us. I appreciate their actions, and respect their space.

of course, I wish that no-one will smoke, but then it is not my call or I should judge anyone.

Singapore Tobacco tax is not the highest.
Cooking oil and other items like salt is the last thing tat's gonna be tax, as those are essential.
