Stall in 'chewy coleslaw' case passed inspection
I REFER to the letter, 'Horror find in chewy coleslaw' (ST, Aug
23).
All food vendors are required to sell clean and wholesome food.
They are also required to observe good personal hygiene at all
times.
Towards this end, the National Environment Agency (NEA) has a
system in place to ensure that all registered food handlers attend
and pass the Basic Food Hygiene Course, so as to equip them with
the necessary knowledge before they are allowed to operate public
eateries.
In addition, NEA officers conduct regular checks on food
outlets.
Depending on the severity of a lapse in personal and food hygiene,
food handlers and operators may face fines, demerit points or have
their licences suspended or revoked.
Your reader, Ms Julizza Jumahat, had alerted NEA to the incident on
Aug 20. During our check on the foodstall, all food for sale,
including coleslaw, were found free of foreign matter.
Food handlers were found to be free from cuts and practising good
personal and food hygiene.
We thank Ms Julizza for the feedback.
Members of the public can contact the NEA Call Centre on 1800-CALL
NEA (1800-2255 632) to provide feedback on unhygienic practices of
food handlers.

It sound like the NEA expect the plaster to be found daily ...
