FiRe_BLaDe SG

hiaz...not too sure whats to get and seems like alot of factor to think.
guess i need some help.

thinking of getting car but i always heard ppl sas maintaning a car is diff.thinking of maybe getting a 1.6 and below car..dont seems to trust brands like kia or hyundai. Mad however dont really noe whats good.wanted a saloon look car but ltr maybe thinking of hatchback cars.
as the price dont seems too high.is there any car that haf equal FC and power?i guess FC of a car should be a impt factor rite?so how do you judge it has a gd FC or not?

another thing is i heard that the insurance is highest for honda brand?normally, whats in the cost of the car?COE and the car cost and any other costs are inclusive in it?

so hows does this OMV and breakeven pt means?to what i noe is a BEP of a car is normally 5 yrs?does it means that u need to finish the loan of ur car b4 u and sell or scrap?then will we get back anything in terms like if i would like to change to another car will there be any $ that i can take from the first car and dump it as a downpayment.

btw,do u think weekend car more affordable?
sorry..guess i am really lost and noob about this car thing.so what is the average cost of owing a car?need some advice pls..thx alot.. Smile

Greetings

Hi Fire Blade,
My name is Sham, just a local next door. Thinkin of getting ur 1st Car Very Happy . Here are some of the question(s) you might want to 'think carefully' before getting one -
(1) Do you really "need" a car ? Is it a 'must' or you see ppl 'buy' you also want to 'buy' Smile
(2) Do you have lot$ of money$ for ... - Monthly installment, carpark, fuel, erp
...maintenance...other unforseen circumstances

Just these 2 questions will do lah - If u have lot$ of money then I gue$$ u don have to read my reply. Just a suggestion, why don u rent -a- car for a month and then you will feel how is to own a car.

cheers,
Sham

how much ur budget?

Praetorian111 SG

It is good to work out your budget first before committing into buying a car. In most cases, one will have to take a loan for at least 7 years before they can repay the amount, therefore has to carefully plan the purchase well.

I think it is not necessary to get a car in Singapore, use public transport. Save the money to enjoy other things. Try not to loan anything in the world if you can afford one. Because loan interest rates can kill

mastdfj SG

actually i think in s'pore dun need to buy lar.. very ex..
but hor, if u doing sales job always need to travel den may be good to buy lar
esp nowadays the employer always expect people to have own transport
den if u r diploma or degree holder, go interview,
they'll ask u got licence? considering buying car?
wonder if u say "dun want to buy" whether they'll still hire u

think kia car cheaper...

nullifi3d SG

i don't think it matters if the interviewer asks if you have a car or not. Car ownership dosen't mean anything in SG. Having a license is a good thing but you don't have to own a car.

You may say you "don't want to buy" a car but if you back it up with a witty remark like "i have one less financial burden" then as an interviewer i will be more than impressed.

hampden11 SG

Not easy to get the best of everything, but i feel if you want decent FC, try getting Hyundai Getz or Toyota Vios, the car price also not very expensive.

I think it is pretty good to have those as first cars, in case "touch wood" accident also u not so heart pain.

FiRe_BLaDe SG

thx for the advices..
well, not working in sales..although transportation is convient but at times it really take so long to wait for a public transport.juz thinking that its like a convient to owe it and maybe faster to get to a place in term of no jam.

hmm..but i guess renting is much more higher then owning 1 rite?dont realli noe my budget yet as i dont think i haf much savings.heard from ppl about the insurance is higher for first timer to owe a car or sth..was maybe seeing how much average a person need to owe a normal car and maybe i guess i need to work out and see if i can achieve it.

During the morning peak hours, one can possibly reach the office faster by MRT than by car/taxi.

Blahhh SG

Well, if you can't afford to maintain a car and you find MRT/Buses to be too troublesome to get around, perhaps you should considered a bike. I am very sure you can get around very fast on a "FIREBLADE" Wink

UandMe SG

of course for most of the jobs it doesn't matter and the interviewer won't even ask u this qn.

this qn will only be asked if u're applying for outdoor sales or positions which u must travel frequently and at short notices. It definitely matters in this field and gives u greater chances than candidates without a car.

mastdfj SG

that's wat i thot so... of cos i'd love to get a car...
but i doubt i can afford... or even if i can afford..
i think i'll be slogging my life to maintain it..
n i think it's not worth it.
but then again, i'd love to secure the job...
haiz..

BrUtUs SG

go get motor license then its cheaper n dun hv to wait for 'world class' public transport...

FiRe_BLaDe SG

sad to say...when i was young had this intention of taking a bike licence however i see my frn become paralysed and my parents keep objecting i had forgo the tot of having 1.
haiz..so i think no bike bahz..so fan
but is lancer a petrol saving car, normal or high?

BrUtUs SG

nothing wrong with bike… jz heng suay… if afraid jz get a scooter… but to be safe then continue ur plan of getting a car lo…

BillGates SG

erm... don't get if you are regular spec with 2K pay hor, it's not that cheap.

mastdfj SG

duno abt lancer
but sunny is definitely not petrol saving
