Actually, holidays came holy days. In ancient times, the major
pre-occupations aside from wars were religious rites, rituals &
ceremonies. So
holy days were declared so that people can spend time and
money to worship,
to make sacrifices to gods and to ask for blessings (to make more
money)! It was in the interest of religious organisations to have
such holy days.
Fast forward to modern times, holidays are days for break from
work, time for merriment and indulgence. Singapore Pools believe in
holidays too.
