The news shows that the plane slide on some kind of petrolum deposits which is next to the runway. there was also a public road next to the runway. How come the runway like that one

President Nathan offers condolences to Brazilian President over plane crash

SINGAPORE: President S R Nathan has sent a condolence letter to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula de Silva on the death of nearly 200 people following Tuesday's plane crash.

He offered his deepest sympathies and condolences to the people of Brazil, particularly those whose lives were directly affected by the disaster.
