Is tailgate a traffic offence?

Guess you haven't meet any member from the Evo-van club.

You see, I drive a 10 years old Nissan March. I was tailgated everyday even though I kept within the speed limit. I hate to travel highway because when I drive at the leftmost lane, I was tailgated by lorries and vans. Am I road hog when I drive 70 km/h at the leftmost lane of the highway? The best part is when I need to make a right turn in an up-slope multi-lanes road, some cars will tailgate me and others will cut infront of my car. I feel like a criminal been squashed in between unmarked police cars. Sometime I feel guilty driving on the road because I see everybody rushing for something while I take my own sweet time.

You see, I am not rich and I cannot afford new and powerful cars. But I need a car to make a decent living. So please, when you saw a poor little old Nissan March driving on the road, please give her a break. She just want to travel safely from point A to point B.

BTW, is tailgate a traffic offence?

Xie xie! Laughing

No excuse. My car smaller than your but never road hog. Mr. Green

Anyway, 70kph on highway in a passenger car is really slow unless in slow traffic. But travelling on the leftmost lane should be alright. Those lorries and vans might seems to be tailing you, but that is because their car no nose, so they seems closer than other cars.

Anyway, when people tail you, just make sure you keep a reasonable safety distance in front, so if anything happen, the impact from the back wouldn't make you ram the car in front. Wink

Tailgating, don't know leh, so far never heard anyone kanna summon for that before. But I guess it could be an offence as dangerous driving under the judgement of the TP. Neutral

Gasfene SG

Both roadhog and tailgate is an offence.

But travelling 70km/h on leftmost lane is not roadhog. its hard to determine whether someone is tailgating or not, to impose penalties.

hisoka SG

tail gating is an offence. but its a freaking outdated law. if i am not wrong the distance is 10 metres or something. if eveyr one keep 10 metres distance then confirm traffic jam from one end of singapore to the other le.

stupid singapore government got so many stupid, idiotic and outdated laws one

Wah liao! My car is 1 litre yet you drive smaller car than me yet never road hog? You are cool man!

I noticed not many cars gave way to me when I signalled. But when I drove my brother's new car, I noticed more cars give way to me. Do you experience that? I thought it should be the other way round? I have this give way to the poor mentality rather than give way to the rich mentality. I think something wrong with me.

As for as I rembr, I don’t think roadhogging or tailgating is even mentioned in road traffic act.

In Singapore how's the situation like ah?

Car A tailgate Car B, Car B stop. Car A crashed onto Car B.

Is Car A clear cut, no argument at fault?

Because in North America. It is clear cut Car A will be at 100% fault because Car A must have maintained a safe following distance in the first place in case Car B stops for whatever reasons.

should display "undercover Tp with speed cam on board"

hmm. i'm actually getting quite irritated with the stupid vehicles with the 60kmh and 70kmh stickers on the backside. with those stickers, keep to the left of the expressway lar! i always see them speeding in excess of their sticker limits. also see 70kmh sticker lorry cruising at 70kmh on left most lane. then 60kmh sticker overtake the 70kmh lorry. but he went to 2nd lane at 80kmh forcing 90kmh cars to slow down / switch to lane 1 which in turn forced 110kmh (speeding) cars to get irritated and start with the nonsense - tailgate, high beams etc.

why cant "slow moving vehicles" MOVE SLOWLY and KEEP LEFT. n for goodness sake dont overtake each other.

the worst situation i encoutner was all 3 lanes blocked by 60kmh large trucks. (at PIE towards west before clementi rd exit) left most one cruising at 60, 2nd lane one speeding at 70 (which is slow for the 90kmh cars) and the right most one at 60kmh with right signal exiting expressway (right lane to exit but he "form up in right lane" very very very early.)

With regards to commercial vehicle speeds; I feel that there's a problem - there are four (4) different speeds: 40, 50, 60, 70. This is why a lot of vans and light trucks end up in the center lane overtaking (leap-frogging).

40 is for large trailer trucks, 50 is mostly for army vehicles and some large commercial trucks, and 60/70 largely vans, pickups, and mini-buses.

You see, many times when there are a few army trucks or vehicles in front on the left lane, there'll be a long Q behind, and those with the 60, and 70 sticker will start to overtake the army vehicles in front. And then there are those who travel at 60 because their limit is 60, those with 70 sticker will overtake the 60 limit vehicles.

So, this is all LTA's fault. No fix standards, too many different speed limits.

Lucky I am not TP, must be very confuse! How to decide who to catch? I think they will catch the slowest speed. Poor thing. Crying or Very sad
