Worth to buy SG to travel back MY????

No, I share a HDB flat with my classmates. So thinking move back JB if worth to buy a car here. Can relax during wkend with cheap food and leisure expenses.....

Besides cost factor, do consider the time factor.

Most of my m'sian friends go back to JB during the weekends becos they don't want to be caught in the jam.

Some can afford, they bought a SG car and stay in a rented SG flat. Some cannot afford, they stay in rented flat and take public transport to JB.

Nobody can tell you whether it's enough or not. You do your sums with your available budget. If I tell you it's enough. Don't tell me you straight away go and buy? If next time not enough, how? I fork out the balance for you from my own pocket?

S$600 for a Picanto1.1 isn't enough, now you raise your budget and up your expectation. I don't see much logic here.

Anyway, I go into Malaysia, singapore about S$2-3, malaysia side about RM3-4. Anyway, be ready to eat grass for your dream. Neutral

I guess his initial budget is S$900. He lowered it may be to "test water". Now the water is burning hot, he add some more cold water (budget) to cool the hot water.

He makes us look silly in answering his thread...

Actually what I meant is $600 for a small car isn't enough, then he raise it too S$900 but now a much bigger car at 1600cc. This is the part which I think is illogical. Usually people say not enough, you just raise the budget or lower the expectation.

$600 may just enough to take taxi. Somemore taxi is more than 1.6L but not auto though.

I can just about feed my 0.9M Kelisa with S$1k per month. Do the maths.

Road tax =S$100
Insurrance = S$100-200
Fuel = S$100-150 (if you pump all in JB)
Cashcard/Parking = S$50 (normal parking + ERP + whatever)

This are cost that you will most likely have to pay monthly, assuming average milage. You in the jams and distance you ave to travel to Singapore from JB, fuel might be more than my estimate. To add to those above, you still have maintence, car installment (easily S$500 per month with 10 year loan).

A small budget like yours isn't enough to let you own a middle-sized car. You think cars in Singapore cheap!

So are u staying in Singapore on a student pass? if you are, then legally you're not even suppose to be driving in singapore. (it is stated on the LTA website that all student pass holders are not allowed to drive in Singapore)

However, some people do this illegally anyways. so its your choice to either follow or go against the singaporean law..malaysian laws do not apply because all malaysian police are corrupted..and i mean all of them.. Mr. Green

I have done some calculation:

Installment 600
Insurance 120
Road Tax 140
Petrol 200
Toll Fee 150

So total I need at least $1200 in order to feed my 1.6A car...

Driving a SG car here is really not CHEAP! Maybe I shld work hard to fulfil my DREAM....

Finally you got the numbers right! Anyway, it is always better to over-estimate the cost then to under-estimate it.

Guess road tax doesn't need that much per month if you buy a new car. Remember to include your monthly season parking if you park at HDB carpark.

Err... that you will have to ask the m'sian gov. It's not under s'pore jurisdiction. Laughing

of course you can drive SG car in Malaysia.

But you will be paying high insurance and road tax and must scrap when the car is 10 years old

Msia 1.6 road tax RM300++
SG 1.6 road tax SGD950 Laughing
