The grammar is also rather different from other European
languages. Have you had the privilege of interacting with a few of
them? I haven't but I'd like their takes on some recent events that
left me with an unpleasant feeling.
As for me I've learnt a little German. I'd like to work on that,
and after that, the list is endless - Italian, Estonian, Swedish,
Dutch, Polish, Suomeksi, Malay...where do I begin? I don't know how
fluent I'll be, but if I can practise using them with my other half
and friends, they probably won't end up like my command of
Mandarin. 
There was once a man who could speak 88 languages - I can't even
name that many.
