I noticed something about young families these days; their parents are out of the picture. (?)

A lot of couples these days tend to "exclude" their parents once they marry. In the past, people would want their parents to stay with them, and they eventually looks after their children while they go to work.

A relative of mine, they have two generations living together. All their children were looked after and brought up by the parents. Grandma and Grandpa are Kings and Queens of the household, and the children grew up with such Sterling Standards of courtesy, and manners. Not one child starts eating at the dinner table until he/she addresses everyone before tucking in.

Parents are MISSING in young couples' families today....there's the imbalance...

Plus, not everyone have the luxury of having parents to look after the children while they go to work

Really, which parents in this world will say NO to looking after their own grandchildren?

And whether the parents lives with them or not, is a matter of 'asking', or wanting them to. IF they ask or insists, the parents will gladly do so. Problem is, I see that most young couples want to prove something - whether they can make it on their own...

It's good if they can, but will be hell for the children when they cannot and get screwed up financially and professionally..

If that is the case, then I say we blame it on the Education System for instilling ZERO values in the recent grandparents of Singapore.

Because the older generations who are less educated or illterate, can think clearer and possess better sense of values...!

i tink it all boils down to our educational system...in sch we're competing to get good grades..den when come to work, we're competing in the corp ladder....n cos we're so biz competing, we dun have time or never been taught how treat both gender well. hence both parties expectation are always in the same direction..

n tats y end up sg guys thinking sg gals are too hard to get n get along..sg gals thinking sg guys are not living up with their expectation n hence remain single..

I think this is debatable again
They might feel that the onus is on their children to bring up their own kids
Being educated also means that there are lots more opportunities for them to do things and catch up with things they never got to do when they were bringing up their children. I think they are at least entitled to that since they did their part bringing up their children and not every grandparent wants to sit at home babysitting.

I don't think wanting to babysit and looking after the grandchilden = better sense of values

Plus, I've seen too many kids who were brought up by their grandparents who are spoilt rotten ><
Not necessary a good thing too.

Not all grandparents want to look after grandkids. This is a sweeping statement.

It is not easy to live with in-laws. Not all in-laws want to live with kids. It all depends.
Grandparents look after kids but don't mean they will want to teach the kids.

Even if they teach, does not mean they are teaching things that you wish the kids to learn.

Even if they are willing to take care of the kids, while they are staying on their own or with another of their children home, it does not mean that the other children or their spouse want to put up with your kids.

And people who ask their parents or in-law to take care of their kids, should know how to be grateful to all the people and their sacrifice made just to accommodate their kids.

Its not so easy my friend. Count your blessings if none of these happen to you.
