I guess it depends on how you get around. I've seen very few
myself too. Maybe it's because many aren't genetically predisposed
to sprouting a decent amount of facial, chest or body hair to show
off.
Maybe it's a matter of personal preference too. I just don't like
it...have you read Roald Dahl's The Twits? 
The
appearance of thick black facial hairs on yellow skin doesn't
appeal to me either.
Moustached Chinese men
seem to be in a marginally higher concentration among old hands in
the army though.
