Perhaps you misunderstood me. I am not saying Jap cars are bad,
but merely asking what's so good about Jap cars when compared to
the Koreans? My bad if I didn't state clearly.
Korean cars used to be a real disgrace, and unfortunately some
people still hold this view today despite the major improvements
made by the Koreans. S'poreans generally are conservative when it
comes to buying cars, and may refuse to consider Korean ones due to
the once bad reputation. That's one reason why you see so many Jap
cars on the road =) And others who sit on the fence will also
follow the crowd (quite typical S'poreans actually). No doubt Jap
cars are good, but is that the real reason why ppl buy one? Badge
snobbery may be at work here, or perhaps the 'follow the rest'
mentality.
i went car shopping with a friend recently coz he wanna change his
old Sonata. He ended up getting a Hyundai again because the premium
prices charged by Jap makes dun justify the premium (in terms of
interior quality, handling and ride comfort). Yeah of course
servicing and parts are cheaper for Japs, but I guess he's willing
to live with that. For that kinda price, we found nothing wanting
or leaves something to be desired. Wondering if the Japs can
produce the same quality goods at the same price actually..
Just my 2 cents. And nope I dun drive a Korean car, if you are
wondering.
Happy new year!
