what excuse for not protecting the environment

i am listing car as an example, as the one of the main contributor to the global warming

and seriously, the greenhouse effect is more of a concern, then those plastic bag, ok those plastic bag has been produced, in the process, it may have contribute to the global warming, goodness, all the plastic bag, will become trash bag, then it will end up being landfill,

i am talking about priority, do something to what has been causing so much damage to the environment

they who are the retailers, might as well, say that, in the name of raising fund for the environmentalist foundation so that they could help to save the environment

Reduce use of plastic bags is a good exercise.

however, pls note that not all items can fit into our bags unless we bring big bags for our shopping. have you seen people shop for groceries... the shopping is humongous....

recycling is a great effort but it needs to be tackled properly and education as well as encouragement is required.

in singapore, our humidity does not allow us to leave our rubbish overnight or over a week before we throw out the rubbish. in cooler climates, people actually throw out their trash maybe once in a few days via a large rubbish trash bag. so more trash is collected and less bags are used.

here, we need to bag our refuse and throw it out daily or we'll stink.

not having plastic bags to dump our rubbish, please then tell us what to do with the rubbish? ofcourse we can buy plastic bags then, then it won't really be a successful reduce exercise right? furthermore, if you buy plastic bags in bulk, it'll cost you less than 10 cents per bag... so isn't the retailer making a "profit" ... even in the name of donation?

why are our recycling bins a failure? have you seen how inconvenient our recycling bins are placed? and what other recycling efforts do we have?

and in my time, i am sad to say i have never witness a collection from the recycle bins around my place... maybe i suay... never see... just see those bins become so dirty and filled with junk instead of recycle materials.

we need to recycle and save our planet. but we also need more measures and better measures than this.

understand, dumb prick, if you really want to save the planet, ask those 1st world country to stop polluting the air lor, tell that to china, and usa

why should we pay additional cents for something which the supermarket should provide

You raise some methods of saving the earth's environment and say that it is more effective than saving on plastic bags....And you use that excuse to explain that we should continue the use of plastic bags.

''since there is a better way, we shouldnt resort to ineffective methods'' should be what you are trying to say.

whether you want to reduce the usage of plastic bag

it is up to individual, and since they want to launch this campaign to raise awareness,when you have been providing plastic bag all along

why not, they should jolly well, just said that it is to raise fund for the environmentalist

how about

they could just stop providing plastic bag, for example, instead of, 7 days a week, only provide plastic bag on the weekend

they could save alot of plastic bag during the weekday

Better, but we need to stop people from taking more empty bags than they need over the weekends. Otherwise the purpose of the exercise will be defeated.

And as I mentioned, we can't get anything done if everyone expects other people to make the first move.

and i don't go shopping at all often, so i don't even use alot of plastic bag at all, i rather use my own plastic bag to carry those grocery, then to pay cents, just to raise awareness

it is already a clear cut case of double standard

those major supermarket, has not been practising this culture at all, now they are advocate this sort of thing

Just now saw an auntie on 630pm ch 8 news say,"I want to buy groceries of course must have plastic bags mah!!! Where got buy things we have to bring our own plastic bag one!??!" And then she gave a bulldog-like scowl.

The auntie and uncle in the street knows zilch about environmental protection. More education should be done first before implementation.

Maybe they think S'poreans have gotten used to such a culture, they think that it will implemented as easily as the govt's pay increase.

The issue here is not about 10 cent or no more free plastic bag for the day.

It is about the way they are doing things.

As you have said, the main purpose is to promote environmental consciousness. So educating is the main point here, but it somehow turned out to be taken the form of punishment.

Great isn't it, Singapore is already so famous for fines everywhere. No matter how to try to argue that this is just promoting less-usage of plastic bags, it will appear in foreigners' eyes that Singaporean need to have a 10 cent charge placed there so they will be conscious enough to bring their own bags.
