most books on "Operations research or management" have at least
a few chapters on what u are looking for.
I forgot the term for the knowledge u are looking for but it has
something to do with nodes and networks and the aim is to find the
best and most efficeint way to travel from one node to
another.
However, no matter how well or efficient ur model is on paper,
extra care must be taken as in real life, there will be
uncertainties like floods, rain, traffic jam, accidents, etc etc.
In other words, this "theory" is useful to a certain extent as it
cannot compute uncertainties (good for academics, but if u want
things to work in real like, competent consultants advice must be
obtained)
If u are in NUS...start with the course called operations
research.
Its quite math intensive.
